Tripartite Mahzor (Add. 22413): Opening of the Book of Ruth
On the left, Ruth stands in front of Boaz and his reaping servant and requests permission to glean the leftovers from his field. On the right, Ruth stands with a sickle in hand next to standing grain. Three of Boaz’s servants harvest, gather and bundle the grain as Boaz (?) watches from behind them. One of the servants scatters harvested grain for Ruth to collect as per his master’s instructions. A number of the figures have heads of animals and the first word of the book of Ruth (“And it came to pass”) is written in Hebrew in large letters within the scene.
