Italian artist and architect of High Baroque. Cortona is best known for painting fresco ceilings. He studied in Florence and Rome, learning his methods mostly by teaching himself. He was inspired by the frescoes of Domenichino and Annibale Carracci. Although he considered architecture a secondary hobby, Pietro was second only to Bernini among Roman architects of their time.
