The Golden Haggadah (MS 27210, f4v): Binding of Isaac

Abraham leans over Isaac, his young son who lies on the ground with hands tied and a calm face. A winged angel bursts from the sky and shows Abraham a ram hanging in a tree, indicating that he should offer that instead. The ram occupies the center of the picture on the axis mundi – a celestial pole which is located at the world center and connects the heaven and the earth. Abraham’s two companions stand aside with an ass and uncomfortably watch the scene.
