Life of Moses: The Golden Calf
Above: Moses kneels before an anthropomorphic God and his heavenly entourage and receives the Torah.
Below left: Moses descends with both tables of the covenant and introduces them to the people, followed by young Joshua.
Below middle: Enraged Moses is about to throw one of the tables to the ground when he sights the Israelites kneeling before an altar, on which the golden calf is mounted on a pillar.
To the right: Moses burns the calf, casts its ashes in the river and orders the Israelites to drink from it.
