Polish/German graphic artist. Born in Drohobycz (Galicia), he spent most of his life in Germany and Palestine. One of the first teachers at Bezalel school of art in Jerusalem, he was a master of Jewish motifs and a founder of the national Jewish art which blended traditional Jewish symbols, Middle Eastern landscapes and figures with contemporary art styles, such as German Art Nouveau.
