Ashburnham Pentateuch (Nouv. acq. Latin 2334, f. 76): The Revelation at Mount Sinai
Above: Moses ascends Mount Sinai in order to receive the Torah from God, depicted as a haloed head amidst a cloud, hovering above the fiery mountain. At the foot of the mountain the people of Israel await Moses’ return.
Center: Moses stands behind a brick altar and teaches the Israelites the Torah he has just received. By his side the priests sacrifice offerings on the altar.
Below: Moses, Joshua, Aaron, Nadab and Abihu stand at the Tent of Meeting on either side of the curtain, which conceals the Holy of Holies.
